For a long time, influenced by the examination-oriented education, geography teaching in middle schools is divorcing from the living world, thus hindering the healthy, comprehensive and all-round development of the students. Under the impetus of the new curriculum reform and the guidance of the new "middle school geography curriculum standards", the general trend of geography education is to reform the traditional teaching way, to learn geographical knowledge that is applicable to everyday life and to implement life-oriented teaching. At present, geography teachers in middle schools lack theoretical knowledge about life-oriented teaching, and practice is not in place either. How the concept should be applied to geography teaching practice, what the teachers should prepare in advance, and what strategies should be adopted are the main focuses of this paper. Guided by "new curriculum reform", and based on the “new middle school geography curriculum standards”, this thesis discusses both theoretical and practical aspects in combination with the characteristics of life-oriented teaching. This thesis is expected to enhance my own teaching theoretical level, and play a positive role in implementing the new curriculum reform through the analysis in this paper. The thesis starts from the research background and theory of the life-oriented teaching in middle schools home and abroad. Under the guidance of the new concept and theory of the new “curriculum standards ", this thesis is theoretically based on related theory. It points out strategies for life-oriented teaching by drawing on the research results related to philosophy, pedagogy and psychology theories. It is in combination with my own teaching practice and experience and at the request of the new “curriculum standards". The discussion is mainly done in three steps: the preparation before class, the practice in class and the consolidation after class. Starting from the teachers and the students who are the two main subjects in teaching, life-oriented teaching requires teachers to take different strategies in three stages to achieve the perfect combination of theoretical teaching and living practices.
