The past decade has witnessed the great progress of education in microminiaturization and informationization, with the rapid development of Modern Information Technology and the popularization of Internet and Mobile Terminal Devices. With micro teaching video becoming an important source for learners’ learning, blended learning, a new learning model which integrates the advantages of classroom teaching with online learning, is of broad application prospects in the information age.In East China Normal University "Middle School Biology Instructional Design" is a compulsory course for the free-charged normal students majoring in biology. This course integrates theory and practice, but the traditional teaching mode is becoming unable to meet the needs of individualized learning, under which, the knowledge and skills that the learners can acquire are comparatively at a low level. A solution to this problem is proposed:applying blended learning to the course with the help of micro video technology, which will be of great significance for teachers’ professional development.Based on the theory and technology of Micro video, and the characteristics of the course of Middle School Biology, and according to the principles of multimedia instructional design, two categories of micro videos:learning content and learning activities totaling 16 are made by way of filming, screen recording, synthesizing Meanwhile, the process of micro video development is introduced with the combination of instances.On the basis of Claroline, Micro video and School, and with reference to Blended learning theory and practice, a micro video-based Blended learning mode is proposed. In order to prove its feasibility and effectiveness, a one-semester curriculum practice is implemented with the 2013 free-charged biology normal students in ECNU as the subjects. In the experiment, Claroline is used as the supporter of micro video and online activities. And university and high school space as the supporter of offline activities.The results of the experiment indicates that: ①micro videos are accepted by students, and the content of micro video basically conforms to the students’ learning needs because of its rich presentation form, high quality picture, clear voice, and reasonable duration in which students’attention can be maintained.② The micro video-based blended learning is feasible and effective, which can meet the needs of the students’ autonomous and cooperative learning, and is helpful for the internalization and understanding of knowledge, and will contribute to students’ applying theory into practice.This study is an attempt and exploration of the development and application of micro videos for the course of Middle School Biology Instructional Design, which may be used as reference for related researches.
