Reverse thinking is a way of thinking that we reverses the habit of thinking. It not only has a positive impact on our daily life, but also plays a non-negligible role in the teaching and learning of various disciplines. In mathematics problem solving,if we use reverse thinking properly,we can simplify the complexity and make it easy, and even solve many problems which are difficult to solve by conventional thinking. In mathematics teaching, teachers can improve students' math literacy through training students to use reverse thinking with reasonable teaching methods.Firstly, the paper is supported by the concept of reverse thinking, and I point out the significance of reverse thinking in mathematics teaching and learning.Secondly,I explain the problem-solving tactics of reverse thinking in detail through several mathematical methods, such as anti-evidence method, complement method, counterexample method, analysis method and inverse method.Besides,I assist representative examples to analyze the powerful effect of reverse thinking in mathematical problem solving. Finally,I demonstrate the important role of reverse thinking in mathematics teaching through two typical teaching cases in high school mathematics.
