The Survival Status Of Community Workers

In 2016, "social work" was mentioned in the government report for the second time. In the process of the construction of contemporary management system, the cultivation of professional social workers and the growth of social work occupies an important position. With the further development of the reform and opening-up policy, the public requires more social work service and expects to see social workers be more professional and specialized. However, it is hard to be satisfy them under the current situation of social workers’living and training. Based on the investigation and analysis of community workers’living status and existing problems from the micro perspective, this study tries to provide a new development path to improve social workers’living status, which has an important significance in improving the social awareness of front-line social workers and enhancing the ability of social workers team.In this study, the author took A District of Nanjing as an example and adopted literature research, questionnaire method, semi-structured interviews and participant observation to collect a number of relevant information. Through the questionnaire method and semi-structured interviews of community social workers in A District, the author is glad to find that they have good working stability, years of experience, and higher degree of social recognition. But at the same time, community social workers in A District face many problems such as austere survival and development status, low income, low specialization and poor training effect, etc.Based on the practice and analysis of investigation result in A district, the author try to offer proposals about how to improve the living situation of community workers:(1) reforming salary system; solving problems like insufficient financial support, building reasonable salary system; (2) promoting the professionalization of community work content; reforming residential committee and street system; discretely setting residential committee and service station; (3) for building a professional team of community social work, it is need to cultivate qualified social work professionals in education level, to attach great importance to the social work profession training, to improve the professional ability of front-line social workers, and to promote cooperation of universities and community to provide more internship opportunities for students who study social work; (4) in order to raise the public awareness of social work, social systems including the government, universities, social workers and social welfare institutions need to cooperate to undertake the responsibility of the popularization and promotion of social work.
