Classroom discipline is a very important part of classroom management, which is on the top list of the primary-school teachers. Nowadays primary education in China has been entering ’post-physical punishment era’, where parents, teachers and the whole society have been expressing mount concern about their children’ rights and interests, so it is urgent that how to keep classroom discipline without physical punishment and insult. Comparatively, American primary schools have more mature systems. Therefore, it is significant for us to study American primary schools’ classroom management system.This article comprises three parts:This first part is about the historical development of American primary schools’ classroom management. From 1830 s to the end of the 20 th century, American primary schools paid more attention about their students’ behavior with the influence of European mainstream concept of traditional education. After that, students themselves had become the prime concern of American primary schools, classroom management became much slacker, while encouragement and rewards were given instead of punishment. Then after World War II, classroom management is more about humanism and democracy. managers respect their students meanwhile strict with their behavior.The second part is about the study of American primary schools’ classroom management system. American primary schools’ discipline includes class behavior, attendance, homework, testes and so on. The editing and revising of discipline has a standard program, in which democracy, efficiency, and respects students’ rights are more valuable. And during the enforcement of the system, it is the comprehension, flexibility and principle which are the most important.The third part is about the analysis of the factors that influence of American primary schools’ classroom management. Undoubtedly, social culture plays an important role, including the individualism, anti-privilege, inclusiveness and religion. What’s more, education regulation and management、all the rules and laws、the regulation of classroom management as well as the teachers organization also contribute a lot. Last but not the least, the education philosophy and the public’s perception influence has deeply of the management of classroom discipline.
