In correspondence with government guidelines, a new system for physical education was implemented within multiple schools. The overseer of this project is a team from Beijing Sports University, implementing this system in five different schools for first graders. The proposed physical activities include those from the field of Track and Field, Gymnastics and Martial Arts. After one year of implementation, the results are analyzed and the effectiveness of the program is evaluated. This paper draws on the data from two different schools:Huo Ying Elementary School; a participant of the program, and Si Gen Bai elementary school, a non-participant. We studied the overall benefits of the new system through precise documentation, comparison of results and statistical analysis. The results are highlighted below:(1) Fitness:after one year, there is a significant different between the cardiovascular capacities of the students from the two institutions. Students from Si Bo Gen were found to have much superior lung capacities. However, students from Huo Ying outperformed in 50-meter dash, sit-and-reach test and and jump-ropes. There is no statistical significance difference between the BMI (Body Mass Index) of the students from their respective institutions.(2) Comparison of content:both schools offer Track and Field, Gymnasium and Martial Arts. But Huo Ying’s program is more diversified, attractive and more effective.(3) Equipment:Since Huo Ying participated in the program, the institution provides better and more relevant facilities including a set of soft track and field equipment designed by youths by the IAAF. Special equipment includes parallel bars, abalancing beam and a trampoline. This provides students with a more diverse exposure to PE (physical education).(4) Frequency of PE class:Huo Ying offers PE classes more frequently than Si Bo Gen. Out of all the PE classes provided, Track and Field is offered the most, followed by gymnastics and martial arts respectively.(5) PE effectiveness:Overall, students from both school showed improvements in terms of healthy lifestyle choices, emotional health, team work capabilities, and interest in PE. Hoever, students from Huo Ying improved more in all these aspects, illustrating the success of this new physical activity regime.
