With the rapid development of information technology and the growing popularity of Internet technology, computer network has become one of the most important areas in modern information technology. To achieve the diversification of education information service automatically, to achieve the sharing of high quality education resources and to provide remote learning environment for the majority of users, the Internet tools naturally attract many education experts at different levels and lots of companies studying on education technology. Micro-class refers to the video which is generally less than 10 minutes as the main carrier. It records the excellent teaching and learning activities which are carried out by teachers in the teaching process of the classroom teaching and learning. At the same time, with the development of micro-class,many other micro concepts such as micro classroom, micro lesson, micro lesson plan as well as micro video arise rapidly. Schools are gradually perfecting the basic teaching facilities in our country. Multimedia has been utilized in the education of many primary and secondary schools. Micro-class combines information technology and education perfectly and it is popularized quickly. Many schools have already used micro-class to aid English learning. In this paper, the author investigates the effect of micro-class on junior middle school English teaching and English learning.Here are the research questions:1. What is the status quo of the application of micro-class in junior middle school English teaching?2. How does micro-class influence students’ English learning in junior middle schools?The participants of this study are 38 English teachers and 68 students in Class One,Grade One in Peiming Junior Middle School, Shanghai. Interviews and questionnaires are used in this paper. The author comes to the following conclusions after the research:1) The results of teachers’ interviews show that 39% of English teachers in PeimingJunior Middle School seldom apply micro-class to English teaching. And some of English teachers are even not familiar with micro-class. 2) Based on the result analysis of the questionnaires and interviews, the author finds that micro-class influences students’ English learning in the following seven aspects: ⑴ Helping students to understand the teaching content. ⑵ Helping students to understand the teaching material. ⑶ Helping students to mobilize a variety of senses and improve their learning efficiency. ⑷ Helping students to improve their listening ability. ⑸ Helping students to speak English. ⑹ Helping students to understand the reading material. ⑺ Helping students to improve their writing ability.According to the research, the author puts forward some countermeasures and suggestions on the application of micro-class in junior middle school English teaching.Here are the suggestions:1. Appropriate micro-class resources for English teaching must be chosen. They should not only connect with teaching contents, but also follow teaching objectives.2. The selection of micro-class resources should take into account the differences between teaching contents.3. The application of micro-class resources can optimize English teaching, but it should be noted that in English teaching the application of micro-class should not be single. Traditional teaching and micro-class can be combined in teaching, the two complement each other and there is mutual support.4. Teachers should choose appropriate ways of using micro-class resources for their teaching. It is not desirable to rely entirely on the teaching method of micro-class.
