The classroom atmosphere refers to classroom climate created by the teachers through scene layout, space design, teacher-student interaction, psychological guidance and other means in teaching activities to promote the perfect teaching implementation.In the primary school fine art teaching activities, good art classroom atmosphere can subtly influence students’ mental activities and behavior, and can stimulate students’ enthusiasm in learning art, and improve teaching quality and active participation. In"Art curriculum standards of compulsory education”(2011 Edition), the fourth part proposes clearly: Student-centered teaching ideas is advocated. Schools and teachers need to create a relaxed teaching and learning atmosphere by setting the problem situation, providing a prototype inspiration, guiding students to observe, to imagine, to perform, and other activities.” Thus, art teachers should study the teaching atmosphere-building strategy and improve the quality of art teaching as much as possible.This paper consists of five parts. The first part is the introduction. The author collects and arranges materials from study background and status to make basis for the next step in writing. The second part discusses the relevant concepts. The teaching atmosphere is divided into active teaching atmosphere, general teaching atmosphere and passive type teaching atmosphere. Secondly, it discusses the contents composed of the physical and psychological factors. The physical factors includes four aspects of teaching environment color, classroom desks and chairs position and order, art decoration in classroom, art works exhibition area. Psychological factors include three aspects of teacher’s mood and attitude hint, student expectation effect and interaction,and study strategies. The third part is the analysis on the fine arts classroom teaching atmosphere in primary schools abroad. By the study on American and Japanese art classroom teaching atmosphere, and comparison, it finds out the advantages and shortcomings of our art classroom teaching atmosphere, and what should be learned from foreign good experience. The fourth and the fifth part is the key point of this paper. The author firstly made a study and survey on the art classroom of Yantai primary school, and found that the art classroom teaching lacks attention on thephysical atmosphere like the classroom color environment, simple interior decoration,unchanged desks and chairs placing, students’ works exhibition and other issues.Psychological factors affecting the classroom teaching includes influences from teachers’ mood and altitude, students’ expectation and interaction, learning strategies and other issues. According to the above problems, the paper puts forward the corresponding change method based on building principles of physical atmosphere:physical color atmosphere building strategy, changing desks and chairs form strategy,theme decoration strategy and works show classification strategy. It puts forwards the corresponding optimizing strategy based on psychological factors in teaching atmosphere: teachers’ mood and altitude hint strategy, creating student expectation effect strategy and creating fun- learning strategy.By building a good classroom teaching art atmosphere, students’ enthusiasm of active participation in art teaching activities can be stimulated, students’ aesthetic view can be improved, their ability of imagination is enriched, and their creative, innovative thinking ability shall be cultivated. Through building and optimizing the art classroom’s physical and psychological atmosphere, it is not only helpful to improve the teaching level of teachers, but also to enhance the quality of teaching. At the same time, it can promote the development of physical and mental health of students and teachers, and ultimately a healthy and harmonious art class is formed.
