Thomas Percy Nunn is the famous scientist, philosopher and educator in the early 20 th century in England. Percy Nunn includes the most fundamental knowledge of education into his writings(EDUCATION, Its Data and First Principles). The current study based on Percy Nunn’s writings analysis educational purpose, influencing factor and cultivation method in turn.The author analyzes their thoughts of individuality that is based on the comparison of Percy Nunn’s thought, Montessori’s thought, Whitehead’ s thought and Suhomlinski’s thought. The author analyzes the value of Percy Nunn’s thought combined the author’s theory. Finally, the author pointes out the inspiration we should learn from the thought. And the author provided theoretical guidance for individualized education and the implementation of free development of individuality in our country. This paper is divided into three parts:The first part mainly studies the source of Percy Nunn’s free development of individuality. Percy Nunn’s free development of individuality derived form Percy Nunn’s educational experience, his social background and his thought’s theoretical basis that include biology, psychology, philosophy.The second part mainly studies Percy Nunn’s free development of individuality. In Percy Nunn’s opinion, Fundamental purpose of educational effort must help every children whose individuality achieves most completely development. Percy Nunn discuss above points in detail. The influencing factor of the free development of individuality includes the relationship between the nature and nurture and the school. Cultivation method of the free development of individuality includes playing, the creation of the free environment, guiding mimesis and following instinct, wishing to research, learn by doing and so on.The third part is the evaluation of the free development of individuality and the enlightment. The author analyzes their thoughts of individuality that is based on the comparison of Percy Nunn’s thought, Montessori’s thought, Whitehead’ s thought and Suhomlinski’s thought. Firstly, the author analyzes the value of the free development of individuality. It appeals that the education pays attention to the individuality and the free. The thought points out the direction for the education at that time in the UK and around the word. The thought is based on the theoretical basis of science and has an impact on the word educational development in the future. Secondly, the author analysis the limitation of Percy Nunn’s free development of individuality, including placing too much value on the research of biology and neglecting the sociality of person. Finally, the author points out the enlightment of Percy Nunn’s free development of individuality. Our country should follow the tendency of development of individual education. Our country should progressively outstand the talent evaluation criterion of the individuality and create the campus environment of the individuality and guide the combination theory and practice to realize individual auto-education.
