More and more attention is paid to teaching English with status of English having improved over past years, especially the English reading teaching. However, because of the national college entrance examination, most of teachers generally tend to pass on the basic knowledge, while overlook the cultivation of reading habits and interest and strategy. Ironically, dense interest, good habits and excellent strategy in reading are the most essential approach to enhance reading proficiency. Consequently, it is crucial to select more efficient and appropriate teaching models to cultivate students’ interest and good habits in English reading and improve their score and proficiency in English reading.As the bridge between existing knowledge and new knowledge, advance organizer strategy, which refers to the guiding material presented by teachers, makes it easier to comprehend and acquire new knowledge. Advance organizer strategy is applied in senior high school English reading teaching verify whether the influence of students’ interest and attitude towards advance organizer strategy exists and whether it is more effective than previous models of teaching for the improvement of students’ reading achievements. There are three research questions:1: What are the changes of students’ attitude towards learning in English reading in the experimental class?2: Can advance organizer strategy improve students’ reading scores?3: What is the effect of advance organizer strategy on the scores of high achievers(students in high score group) and low achievers(students in low score group) in experimental class?And is there any continuous effect on scores?Participants in this teaching experiment include 98 students from 2 classes in Grade 2 from Donggang NO.2 senior school in Liaoning province. These two classes are randomly arranged as the experimental class and the control class. In the experiment, advance organizer strategy is used in the experimental class. The experiment lasts for the whole semester. This thesis collects data by quantitative and qualitative methods, and at last analyzes the data by SPSS17.0 software.Research results elucidate that advance organizer strategy has a positive effect on teaching of English reading in senior high school. Students have an obvious active change in English reading in two aspects: reading interest and reading method. What’s more, the attitude of students towards to English reading directly impacts their reading score. High achievers keep a good score, and scores of low achievers have witnessed a remarkable improvement. Thus it can be shown that advance organizer strategy has distinct effect on students who have different achievements in English reading. Consequently, the application of advance organizer strategy in teaching English reading in senior high school deserves further researches.
