Flipped classroom is a new teaching model which inverts the teaching and learning process. In a flipped class, students learn the teaching materials before the class by watching the teaching videos. In the class, students can solve the problems that they meet in the learning under the help from teachers or discuss the topic with classmates. This thesis is a study on the application of flipped classroom in high school English teaching. Introduction makes a detailed introduce to the definition and constructional model of flipped classroom and summarizes the studies on the application of flipped classroom at home and abroad and put forward the research questions of this thesis. In the first chapter, this thesis elaborates the basic theory of flipped classroom:Bloom’s Mastery Learning. Based on the theory, in the second chapter, several principles of instructional design of flipped classroom are summed up, including the principles of the design of teaching content, teaching videos, teaching activities and assessment and feedback. And in the third chapter, a case of flipped classroom of English teaching in high school is made and it is applied in two grade-one classes in a high school. After the application, an investigation is made among the students through a questionnaire. The results show that 85.34 percent high school students hold a positive attitude towards the flipped English class and the flipped English class has positive impact on students’engagement, self-learning and interests in learning English. Therefore, flipped classroom is an effective teaching model that can be applied to high school English teaching to improve students’ engagement, self-learning ability and arouse their interests in learning English.
