The first year of university connects secondary education to higher education. It is also a transitional period for undergraduates to develop their study, career, and so on. Therefore, the first year of university is called “first year experience”. Whether smoothly spending this period or not, has a directly concern in the quality of talents and study developing. When the freshmen enter the university, they will face a lot of adaptive problems. The primary and prominent problem is learning adaptive problems. This paper depends on the concept of case study with theoretical perspective. In November 2014, researcher did questionnaire survey with 220 students and interview survey with 30 students in BH University for the case. On this basis, researcher bases on the theory of Emotional Intelligence to analyze the expression, reasons and supportable methods about the learning adaptive problems of freshmen.The main content of this paper is divided into four parts:The first part mainly arranges and establishes the Emotional Intelligence Theory as the theoretical perspective of this paper. This theory is widely and popularly concerned. It is used in management, psychology, pedagogy and so on. Mayer, Salovey, Bar-on and Goleman came up with three kinds of the theoretical models of the Emotional Intelligence. Key elements of the theory include autognosis, motivation, self-control, environmental adaptation, pressure handling and so on. These elements are suitable to analyze the learning adaptive problems of freshmen.The second part, which is based on empirical research, mainly shows the expression of learning adaptive problems of freshmen. They generally can’t adapt to not only learning psychology, strategy and resource, but also teaching and class patterns. These factors cause freshmen can’t adapt quickly. The problems of learning adaption are outstanding.The third part is based on the theoretical framework of Emotional Intelligence to analyze the reasons of the learning adaptive problems of freshmen in university. Freshmen’s Emotional Intelligence includes autognosis, volition and self-control, motivation, society and environmental adaption, psychological adjustment and stress management. The Emotional Intelligence’s level of undergraduates has a great influence on their learning adaption.The fourth part comes up with some methods to improve Emotional Intelligence level of freshmen, in order to solve the problems of learning adaption. On the one hand, Freshmen should improve their own Emotional Intelligence level, and learn to adapt actively. On the other hand, universities should perfect external environment and institutional improvement.
