The higher education of archival science in China began in the 1930s, after going through a tortuous journey more than half a century, the professional higher education system of archival science developed from the initial special course, then gradually evolved into the integration of multilevel and complete system include specialized-subject education, bachelor education,postgraduate education, and doctoral education. The postgraduate education of archival science plays as an important part in archival science education system, it’s the main way to comprehensively cultivate the high-level and high-quality talents of archival science, it acts a vital role. Since 1984, the department of archival science of Renmin University of China awarded graduates master’s degree, the postgraduate education of archival science in our country has gone through 32-year constant adjustment and reform, made gratifying achievements and significant contribution to the development of archive utility for our country. In 1949, the Kuomintang retreated to Taiwan. The higher education of archival science separated from mainland’s, and after that the school-running concepts are on the paths of parallels and crosses. The cross-Strait postgraduate education of archival science lacks strong knowledge background and complete instructional structure, so that the local archival undertaking has the features with weak foundation, dependent, relatively-concentrated distribution, relatively- slow development and immaturity. And the local authorities did not paid more attention to it, thus by taking ideas and patterns of mainland archival science postgraduate education for reference, combining own different social environment, then adjusting itself to suiting local conditions to develop regional characteristics, and practically formed a unique set of archival science discipline characteristic educating mode. Therefore, there are still quite a few aspects worthy of our absorption and utilization in higher archival science education system. According to the statistics, the researching publications and works about archives education has improved remarkably in recent years. However, the articles researching postgraduate education of archival science are not many, and the studies on cross-Strait, whether print documents or electronic network resources like related journals, academic papers, works are extremely rare. Therefore, specifically carrying comparative study analysis of this theme, cross-Strait postgraduate archives education, it will have a certain theoretical value and practical significance.Based on the analysis of historical evolution background of cross-Strait postgraduate archives education, and the current development of archival science postgraduate education as foothold, this paper focuses on comparing the differences on the recruitment of students, the cultivation scheme and cultivation types, to further analysis the similarities and differences and trigger out some thinking. In the study of this thesis, four researching methods are mainly adopt. They are comparative analysis, literature analysis, case analysis and quantitative analysis.
