China has been developed archival education for more than three decades. With the development of economic, social demand for professional archivists become increasingly strong. The number of the colleges and universities who have the archival science master degree in mainland China become more and more. The size of master’s program in archive become larger and larger. The academic also focus on the theme of the master’s education of archive. The ministry of education of archivists, pedagogical steering committee, which also called the conference of deans of the 20th archival specialty was held in Nanjing, in November 2011. The topic of the meeting was the talent demand and training strategies of the development of archive undertaking. The meeting caused high degree of attention from archival academia. In December, the faculty and staffs from School of Information Management Nanjing University went to the United States for doing academic visit and brought the latest news of the archival postgraduate education for master’s degree in the United States.Thus the author puts forward the thesis which called the comparative study of the archival postgraduate education for master’s degree between China and the United States. In order to find out the respective differences and similarities between the two countries, the author adopts the network investigation the questionnaire investigation and the Literature investigation, from overall development, professional recruitment, training program (including curriculum construction), teachers and students’ employment five aspects, then compares the archival postgraduate education for master’s degree of the China and the United States. And the same time the author also analysis of the causes of the similarities and differences. At the last the author thinks something from the archival postgraduate education for master’s degree of America can be used by China.Paper is divided into the following eight chapters:Chapter Ⅰ:Introduction. In this chapter the author introduces the significance and the background of the paper, introduces the state of master education of archival research, designs the content the idea and the method of the paper, establishes the object of study. Finally, the author explains the place of the innovation of the paper;Chapter Ⅱ:The Formulation and Implementation of Survey Scheme. In this part the author explains the implementation process、the elapsed time and the original research results of the network investigation and the questionnaire investigation;Chapter Ⅲ:Overall Development. Because the situation of the two countries, the college distribution of the master graduate education of archival science of America are more balanced than Chinese. At the respect of the department subjection, the archives belong to the library information science, neither the United States or China;Chapter Ⅳ:Recruit Students. By comparing the enrollment time and the structure of student enrollment, Finds that due to the limitations of historical conditions, the America carry out archival science graduate education earlier than China. And at the aspect of the structure of Student enrollment, American type is more abundant;Chapter Ⅴ:Training Scheme. In this part, by comparing the training objectives and curriculum building of the two countries, the author finds the training objectives of America are more abundant and more career-oriented than China. And at the aspect of the course construction, the America pay more attention to the practice-oriented courses than China. So the Students of America are more in line with market demand;Chapter Ⅵ:Faculty. By comparing the title、the and the Research ability of the faculty between the two countries, finds at the aspect of age, the American faculty aging trend is clearly, but the Chinese teachers are more younger and more energetic. In addition, The America pay more attention to practical experience of talents, but China pay more attention to academic ability of the faculty. Thus this does not favor the training of archivists;Chapter Ⅶ:Employment. In this chapter, at the aspects of the professional orientation and employment way, by comparing the result of education, the author discovers the America attach more importance to students’ employment planning than China. At the aspect of the way of master degree graduates employment, the students’ employment range is wider both in America and China, but the American employment type is more abundant than Chinese;Chapter Ⅷ:Enlightenment. Summarize the advantage and shortage of the archival postgraduate education for master’s degree of China, puts forward that China should to take the some measures which includes the training objectives、faculty and so on. Only in this way, China can improve level of the archival postgraduate education for master’s degree.
