The importance of harmonious teacher-student relationship in college foreign language teaching is self-evident, and it is also the powerful guarantee of promoting the teachers’ teaching level and inspiring the students’ enthusiasm of learning foreign languages. Due to various reasons, there are some problems in the relationship between teachers and students in college foreign language teaching at present. At first, the author analyzes the concept and characteristics of the teacher-student relationship, the importance of the harmonious relationship between teachers and students and induces the concept and characteristics of the harmonious teacher-student relationship. By using literature analysis and historical research method, the author analyzes and summarizes the historical evolution of the relationship between teachers and students in China. In history, teacher-student relationship in China has experienced four stages. Then by using the questionnaire survey method and observation method, the author analyzes the present situation of our country on the relationship between teachers and students in university, especially the problems existing in the teacher-student relationship in foreign language teaching in university, and explores objective and subjective reasons that affect the teacher-student relationship, especially in foreign language teaching in Colleges and Universities. Finally, under the guidance of Maslow’s theory of hierarchy of needs, some concrete measures or suggestions are put forward to build a harmonious relationship between teachers and students in foreign language teaching in Colleges and Universities by referencing the excellent traditional relationship between teachers and students. And then by using the observation method and interview method, the author makes a preliminary validation of the research results.The author refers to the essence of the excellent Chinese traditional idea of teachers and students in education philosophy, in order to establish harmonious relationship between teachers and students by using the combination of the traditional and modern education philosophy in the foreign language education in Colleges and Universities. By changing the concept of teacher education and teaching mode and method, students’ interest in learning can be stimulated, classroom interaction can be promoted, students’ learning enthusiasm can be enhanced, and the quality of teaching can be improved. They are of great significance in the current foreign language teaching in Colleges and Universities.
