The foreign language teaching is about the teaching of a language, whose nature of communication determines that the teacher should lay emphasis on the communication in the process of classroom teaching. Therefore, the foreign language teaching has higher requirements for the teacher-student relationship and the communication tools than other disciplines. This paper tries to explore the effects the teacher-student relationship has on the foreign language teaching. Several methodologies has been applied in this paper, including analyzing, survey and exemplification. The author aims to conduct a in-depth discussion on the meaning and approaches to establish a positive teacher-student relationship.The paper conveys the information that the teacher-student relationship represents the most fundamental and essential interpersonal relationship in the foreign language teaching process. This relationship guarantees a process where the teacher and students communicate with each other affectionately and also acts as a medium through which the teaching can be conducted smoothly.The teacher-student relationship is among the affectional factors. The humanistic theory, the affective filter hypothesis by Krashen and the attitude balance theory of Heider all emphasize the importance of the affectional factors in the learning process, which is inspiring in discussing the teacher-student relationship.The paper mainly draws the conclusion that the positive teacher-student relationship removes the obstacles in the communication between the teacher and students, which is conducive to the foreign language teaching process. Only in this way can we achieve the predetermined teaching goals.
