An Empirical Study On The Procrastination Of College Students Based On The Inconsistency Of Time Preference

With the development of Behavioral economics and Experimental economics, more and more attentions have been drown on the question of "Rational Economic Man". One of the them is about Time Preference. Experiment shows that most people prefer enjoying pleasure in good time without thinking about the result.The performance of this question on the college student is academic procrastination. In research,90 percents of students have academic procrastination more or less. There are many reason for this question. For example the fear for failure, the pressure from company. Most of the students want to change this situation, but they don’t know how.In this paper, I made a research in Yunnan University. First of all, I found the student’s attitude about Time Preference are not same. The discount rate in the short term is far higher than the long term. The second, I found Short-term discount factor have a lot of relationship with Time Preference. What’s more, I contrasted college students with graduate students and found some interest results. In the end, I made a new excitation mechanism which can help students solve the problem of Procrastination.
