With the deepening of opening-door policy year by year, China’s all-round opening up to other countries in political, economic and cultural cooperation has reached a historic peak. Under this background, Chinese language education has been developed extensively around the world, which presents a great demand potential overseas. Thailand has long been a friendly neighbor of China with frequent economic and cultural exchanges; in recent years, it also raised a Chinese studying upsurge. Thailand government strongly supports to promote Chinese language, and in Thailand education system, the proportion of Chinese lessons is rising continuously.However, there are several difficulties and problems in lots of Thailand schools with the rapid development of Chinese teaching. Through practical experiences of teaching Chinese in Thailand for three months, the author conducted a field survey on the Chinese teaching in two different types of primary schools in Uttaradit of northern Thailand-church school and public school. Based on the investigation results, we understood the basic situation of Chinese teaching at an early stage, the specific status quo of Chinese teaching as well as the current problems in both of the schools. In this survey, practical experiences with a combination of relevant records were carried out,on one hand questionnaires were sent to students to understand their Chinese studying situation, and on the other hand interviews were conducted with teachers to acquire relevant information. Through the investigation we found that some problems about Chinese teaching could not be ignored in two schools. For example: in church school,there are no specific teaching syllabus and enough Chinese teaching hours, and the team of Chinese teachers is not stable with various teaching levels; while different problems also existed in public school, such as aging local teachers with unitary teaching method, mismatch between the textbooks for students and their studying level. By analysis and comparison in this paper, suggestions were provided to two schools based on Chinese language promotion, aiming to improve their Chinese teaching and promote to develop for the better.This paper mainly includes three parts. The introduction includes the background and reasons of subject selecting, literature review, research methods andthe innovation points. The first part synthetically introduced the general situation of Chinese teaching in Thailand in the terms of its history and development, teaching features and current status. In the second part, through the questionnaire survey, the Chinese teaching situations in Saint Mary’s Uttaradit School and Uttaradit primary school in Uttaradit of Thailand are comparatively analyzed from all aspects. The third part provides constructive countermeasures for the existing problems, expecting to promote the Chinese teaching career in Uttaradit of Thailand to some extent.
