Research On The After-class Exercises Of Junior Middle School Chinese Textbooks In Hubei Province

The present teaching materials of Hubei Chinese textbooks for junior middle school, is published by Hubei Education Press. With the goals of improving the understanding ability of Chinese and developing the ability of inquiry as well as innovation of Chinese for students, the exercise of the textbook is called Understanding and Exploration, whose setting of teaching material is focus on the question of understanding and exploration. There are three sections set up in the after-class exercises of Hubei Chinese textbooks, including reading and reciting the paragraphs or text, the test of reading comprehension ability and the development of practical inquiry ability. In general, the setting of the after-class exercises well reflects the three dimensional goals of Chinese curriculum, including knowledge and ability, process and method, the value view of emotions. At present, all junior middle school students in Wuhan City of Hubei Province will regard it as the Chinese textbook.Actually, the design of the after-class exercises of Hubei Chinese textbook not only conforms to the thought of the Chinese course standard, but also follows the Theory of Cognitive Development and Theory of Cognitive Structure of Bruner. It is intended to the 12 to 15-year old junior middle school students. According to the physiological development or the age stage of junior middle school students, with the theory of teaching students in accordance with their aptitude, the appropriate exercise could be chose in it, which especially attaches the great importance to the cultivation of students’ reading ability and exploring ability. The compilation of Hubei Chinese textbooks is based on the goal, the implementation program and the evaluation method of "Chinese curriculum standard" at the stage of compulsory education. To learn about the evaluation standard for the scientific nature of its after-class exercises, the author compared it with the Chinese tests for Senior School Entrance in Wuhan City. From the comparison, we gained the assessment of the after-class exercises of Hubei Chinese textbooks.To be specific, the author enumerated the analysis of Chinese examination of Senior School Entrance in Wuhan City in recent three years, and enumerated the quality analysis of Chinese examination paper of Senior School Entrance of Wuhan City in 2015 in detail. What’s more, he reached an evaluation and suggestion through the comparison with test types and specific subjects one by one. At the same time, taking Huangshi City, Hubei Province for an example, we made a simple comparison and thinking between their after-class exercises of the textbooks of PEP edition and question forms of the High School Entrance Exams.In the end, with synthesizing the differences between the after-class exercises of Hubei Chinese textbooks and Chinese examination of Senior School Entrance in Wuhan City, according to the regularity of educational psychology, the views of experts in the course reform and the reference to some effective teaching examples, the author puts forward four points of assessments and suggestions on the after-class exercise of Hubei Chinese textbooks. First of all, it lacks of Knowledge training for individual system. Secondly, it is supposed to play an important role in guiding the students to pay attention to and think about life. Thirdly, it is required to add the training subjects about grammar knowledge systematically. Last but not least, it is urgent to add the system training in cognitive thinking strategy. Educational psychology points out that, it is essential to strengthen the thinking training in Chinese for reading and writing. As a result, with following this rule and referring to the characteristics of Chinese, the tailor-made systematic training of thinking strategy should be designed in the after-class exercises.
