This article describes the findings of a survey of comparing using the e-Learning platform Claroline or using traditional courses in mental health education in boarding school. This survey is enhanced by direct observation of the tools used by teachers and students. Claroline was initially developed in Universite Catholique de Louvain (UCL) in Louvain-la-Neuve (Belgium) in 2001 to 2002, now it is used across the world. The platform involves the main components of the pedagogic model:(a) tools covering information, such as "documents and links" and "agenda"; (b)tools on interactions between students and teachers, such as "announcements", "groups" and "forums"; (c) tools allowing students’activities and production, such as "exercises", "works".The paper includes eight sections. Section 1 sets the introduction, the situation of the study around the world and the aims of this paper. Section 2 presents the review of the peer relationships and friendship quality in teenagers across the world. Sections 3 and 4 present the qualitative and quantitative evidences of the students using platform Claroline. Section 5 and 6 provides designs and examples of ways in which learning and teaching about mental health education course by using platform Claroline. All of these examples are done in middle school. Section 7 summarizes the similarities and differences to use platform Claroline or not use Claroline in mental health education courses. Finally, the paper notes the lack of the research and also highlights the need for further research into these areas.Friendship is one of the most important interpersonal relationships in development of people’s life and it refers to a kind of affectionate friendship. The friendship of peer relationships is a source of social support, which decreases the teenagers’anxiety and fear. Friendship lets each other have more chances to communicate intimately and closely with strong feeling. Intimacy is a one of the characteristics of early youth. Intimate friend can enhance the sense of trust, acceptance and understanding. This paper explores the study of mental health education courses based on the platform Claroline and takes the peer relationships as an example. The research uses Friendship Quality Questionnaire (FQQ), video and voice analysis, interview method and data from platform Claroline analysis. The study has a research and collects data in a boarding school in Wuhan from Sep in 2015 to Oct in 2016.Through these analyses, the results of traditional mental health education courses and based on the platform Claroline mental health education courses we found:(1) In the pretest, there are differences in validation and caring, companionship and recreation, intimate exchange dimensions in girls. The scores of girls’ are higher than boys’. There are no significances in conflict resolution, help and guidance and betrayal dimensions.(2) The result of experimental group and control group in the pretest and posttest notes that the scores of friendship quality based on the platform Claroline are higher than traditional mental health education students’ friendship quality scores.(3) The experimental group and control group in posttest have significant differences in validation and caring, conflict resolution, and help and guidance. There are no significant differences in companionship and recreation, intimate exchange and conflict and betrayal dimensions.(4) Compared with traditional mental health education courses, the effect of teaching, students’ participation and students’ learning engagement are much higher in platform Claroline. Students are more attracted by the platform Claroline.(5) In the process of communication, boys like to talk about interests; girls like to talk about their feelings.(6) When there are arguments in the communication, girls gives much more caring and validation, help and guidance to their friends, boys have less caring and validation, help and guidance to their friends.
