In recent years, Earthquake disasters have not been reduced with the progress of science and technology, earthquakes happen every year and make serious casualties. There is a great difference in those countries which have done the earthquake disaster prevention and mitigation education well or not. So the earthquake disaster prevention and mitigation education must be done well. International Decade for Natural Disaster Reduction appeals to strengthen the work of earthquake prevention disaster mitigation and nowadays many countries have done it well. Most countries make a point of students’ lives, such as Japan. However, related researches in china are less, and it is blank in the current situation of involving earthquake disaster prevention and mitigation in geography teaching in the high school of Foshan. The typhoons and floods are frequent here, so people here have abilities to deal with typhoons and floods. But people here have the low acuity of earthquake as the earthquake has not happened for more than forty years. But according to the research of Guangdong seismological bureau there also can be earthquakes. To fill the blank of the research and perfect the system of earthquake disaster prevention and mitigation in geography teaching, this study has investigated the current situation of involving earthquake disaster prevention and mitigation in geography teaching in the high school of Foshan.In this paper, literature analysis, questionnaire and experience summary method were used to study the necessity, suitability and possible ways of earthquake disaster prevention and mitigation in geography teaching in the high school of Foshan. What’s more, the reasons of the problem and countermeasures have been proposed.According to the results of the inquiry, it seems that students in Foshan don’t care about earthquake much and they have a low ability for earthquake disaster prevention and mitigation. Meanwhile geography teachers in Foshan are not confident on earthquake disaster prevention and mitigation education as there is none of trainings on earthquake disaster prevention and mitigation education and the pressure in college entrance examination is too much, although most teachers recognize that geography should take on heavy responsibility of earthquake disaster prevention and mitigation education. This study is trying to find the reasons from the government, the research department, the school, the teacher and the student. What’s more, it will give improvement measures from the part of examination system, teaching goals, teaching methods, teaching resources and teaching evaluations to improve earthquake prevention disaster mitigation education of geography education in Foshan. We appeal to everyone from different sectors of the society to care for the earthquake prevention disaster mitigation education. It will be a subtle effect on the young and it can save lives in the very nick of time.
