Social Work Involved In Disaster Prevention And Mitigation Research In T Village, Beichuan County

China is a country with frequent disasters.Each year,multiple disasters not only cause substantial economic loss but also do harm to ordinary people.Additionally,the national government put a lot of money and manpower into disaster relief.Due to special geographical environment,there are more disasters happening in western ethnic areas of China,like earthquake,drought,snowstorm and floods,which not only endanger economic development,but also delay the work of poverty alleviation.2008 Sichuan earthquake and secondary disasters caused great damage and casualties.The consequences of this disaster was exacerbated the lack of disaster prevention capability and disaster reduction capacity.To express the recollections towards the bereaved in this disaster,strengthen people's sense of urgency and elevate the capability of disaster prevention and reduction,China identified May 12th as "the day of disaster prevention and deduction".In recent years,national government tries its best to alleviate poverty in this country and strengthen the comprehensive ability of peasantry.The ability of disaster prevention and reduction is a significant capability of peasantry.In response to national call,the social work force carries out capability building of disaster prevention and reduction in rural areas,assisting government to alleviate poverty.Taking a disaster prevention and reduction project which is conducted by a social work agency in Beichuan County as an example,this research studies the whole process of social work practice in this project.Namely,making sure the villagers' dominance,by holding general assembly of villagers and setting up villagers' group,the social workers assist them to equip hardware facilities of disaster prevention and reduction.Additionally,this research explores the problems of social workers in this project and potential solutions.The first part of this research introduces the research goal,research significance,literature review,research method and research idea.The second part comments on the theories about capability building of disaster prevention and reduction.The third part study the practices of Beichuan Qiang Soul Social Work Service Center's disaster prevention and reduction project and reflect on the outcomes and drawbacks of this project.The fourth part puts forward some solutions focusing on problems and shortages in this project.The last part concludes this research and proposes the prospect of the future.Based on studying capability building of disaster prevention and reduction in social work field,this research finds that the social work force has its own advantages in disaster prevention and reduction than the government.The social work force can take advantage resources efficiently with little waste and mobilize villagers effectively,letting them participate in capability building and play a major role.Additionally,the social work force is easier to be accepted by the peasants.
