Following the trend of globalization, English has become very popular among non-English speaking countries. English plays am important role in China. Children study English from primary school, English is one of the key subjects during Middle school, and college students are required to at least pass College English Text Band-4. However, many high school students’ English grades are very bad and their English learning ability is not good due to a poor English foundation and a low interest in English. The most important cause of these phenomena is that students can’t learn English effectively in class. Students have little interest in the traditional teacher-centered educational approach. They think the way of teaching is mono-chronic, too boring because the teacher explains too much and students have no chance to learn actively and automatically. What’s a pity is that these problems haven’t caught high attention in English teaching and learning field and teachers still apply the traditional teaching approach.In recent years, the trend of the new curriculum reform has caused many schools to bring in the idea of new curricular reform into classes, the traditional teacher-centered educational approach has been replaced by the new concept of student-centered teaching. The interactive language teaching method, following the idea of new curricular reform, has become the focus of discussion and research by linguists and educators in China. However, research on the interactive language teaching method mainly focus on listening, reading and writing on higher education, or concentrate on subjects like Chinese and Computer Science in high school. Document data shows that researches on the interactive language teaching method applying to high school English class are still in a low number. Therefore, this thesis chooses some Grade one students in a Senior high school in a county as the object of research. By employing the interactive language teaching method, the author makes two surveys and gives students two tests, one is before the experiment, the other is after the experiment. Through these researches, the author wants to know whether this teaching method is practical or not in high school by discussing the following three questions:1.Why the interactive language teaching method should be applied to high school English class?2.Can the interactive language teaching method improve students English grade and English learning ability?3.What practical measures can be used when employing the interactive language teaching method in English teaching?The objects of this research are some Grade one students in a Senior high school in a county as the object. And this paper makes an empirical study by means of questionnaire and test. In one class, the teacher would apply the interactive approach to language teaching and adopt the traditional teaching method in the other class. Before the experiment, the author will make a survey and have a test in the two classes so that the author will know students’understanding of English, students’attitude towards English and students English level as a whole. After the experiment, that is three months later, the author will do another survey on the experimental class, and have a test on both classes so that the author will know the English learning of students of the two classes after the experiment, and figure out whether the interactive approach is effective or not in high school English class by making a comparison between the to classes. The results of the surveys and the tests are as follows.1.Influenced by the traditional teaching method, students have little interest in learning English, their English foundation is poor and their English ability is not good, which result in the need of a new teaching approach.2.The interactive approach to language teaching can improve students English grade and strengthen students’ English ability. Students’ grades get higher and students’ English ability get better after employing this teaching approach.Based on the results of the surveys and tests, the paper proves that the interactive approach can be applied to high school English class as it can improve students’ learning grade and strengthen students’ learning ability. The paper also put forward some practical measures when applying interactive approach, which only serve as a reference on English teaching and learning so as to improve high school students’ English level and ability.
