Research Of The Influence Of Social Relations On Political Promotion

Chinese society emphasize that social interpersonal relationship is the most important guiding principle for economic and social activities. In traditional society, social relationship which is based on human relations dominates the way the whole society operate. In recent years, whether the research of institutional-ism,or social network research, still believe that the social relations support the social system and the order of the emerging markets. Management Studies found, relationships stills plays an important role in modern organizations and affects personnel behaviors in many way, where relationships are known to be the major lubricant of interactions among people.Since the reform and opening up, provincial cadres take more responsibility and pressure on local governance and development. Provincial leadership positions in some special districts become the most important step to enter the top leadership of the country. The study of these provincial cadres is attracting more and more attention of the academic, especially the Promotion Tournament Model. However, the Promotion Tournament Model becomes well known in public view while constantly being questioned and challenged. In related research, many researchers have mentioned that in the selection of provincial cadres, the informal network of interpersonal relations exist everywhere.Based on the results of existing study, the research suggested the hypothesis and explored the influence of social relations on political promotion. In order to carry out the research,the database of provincial cadres is built based on the curriculum vitae of those political elites from 1992 to 2012, between the 14th National Congress of CPC and the 18th. The study analyzed data through the Ordered Probit Model which is relatively mature in the prior study. The study found the four standards set for leading cadres have a profound impact on the selection of cadres. Due to the different division of work and the difference of post importance,the study found the differentiated mechanisms of political promotion for provincial cadres. The results showed a significant positive correlation between network and the promotion of party secretaries while the assessment of governors is focused on economic performance. The study also found that cadres from major economic provinces will be more likely to stand out from the competition. Based on the results, the study suggested the promotion of cadres in China is the results of comprehensive investigation and analysis where relationship infect the selection of leading cadres. The Promotion Tournament Model is not a complete explanation and the study suggested that a lot of work of the explanatory framework of political promotion remains to be done for scholars. In future research, analytical framework should be based on the classification of party secretaries and governs. Moreover, the cross interaction between network relationship and work experinece deserves deep exploration.
