Junior middle school stage is the key period for students to learn English. In recent years, with the deepening of educational theory research and the development of English teaching, there are many new teaching models and teaching methods in English class of junior middle school. All teaching is for the sake of the development of students, it is very important to stimulate and maintain the students’ interest and intention in learning English. After the new curriculum reform, English Teaching in junior middle school has made the development of the comprehensive language application ability of the students as the whole objective, and specific objectives in the curriculum standard are elaborated as what students can do in English, so it is the core of teaching to cultivate students’ ability to do things in English, and it is also the hot research area of the reform of English teaching methods at present.The author concludes the definition of English practical activity teaching for junior high school students from the core concept; Describes the value of English practical activity teaching in junior high school from ability, status and interests of students; Divides the activities to three types according to the object and content of them; Analysis the characteristics of English practical activity teaching for junior high school students from its special aspects; sort out the relative research at home and abroad, find the deficiencies of the current research and the direction of future research; Analyzes the current situation of English practical activity teaching in junior high school through the students’questionnaire survey data and teacher interview data from three schools, including the difficulties that teachers encountered in the process of teaching; illustrates the design of English practical activity teaching in junior high school combined with examples. First of all, it analyzes the design basis; then focuses on the analysis of the steps of designing English practical activity teaching in junior high school, which are, establishing the goal, choosing appropriate activity organization form, establishing the activity steps, creating the activity situation, evaluation and reflection; finally, presents a few typical cases. The author describes the requirements of English practical activity teaching in junior high school combined with cases. Firstly, students should "act", they are encouraged to use brain as well as hands to learn English and guided to act by multidimensional interaction; secondly, teachers "retreat", they should change the traditional situation that teachers occupying the class and create a safe psychological environment, guide and evaluate students timely; finally, the activity itself should be "true", including the operation process and the language materials in teaching, teachers should arrange real language tasks for students and utilize real social situations. In a word, English practical activity teaching in junior high school aims to respect the students’ autonomy and stimulate students’ interest, cultivate the students’ awareness and ability to do things in English.
