Children’s whole person development is based on the full respect for the value of the human, that the overall development should be the ultimate goal of education. Specifically, whole person development is including the comprehensive development of people, in addition to academic achievements, to achieve the development of morality, intelligence, physical, group, beauty, career and emotion. So it is very important to study the influencing factors of children’s whole person development. There have been some researches focus on the effects of physiological factors, psychological factors or social factors. As the most important and basic growth environment, the research on family background is essential, the most common one is to study the influence of family socioeconomic status (SES) on children. When the previous studies choose only academic achievement or psychological development as the dependent variable, family socioeconomic status as independent variables, the conclusion is not consistent. This study aimed at children’s whole person development as the dependent variable, covering academic achievement and psychological development, explore the impact of family socioeconomic status on the children’s whole person development and the influence mechanism.Family investment model(FIM) has analyzed the influence mechanism of family socioeconomic status to children’s development. It says that SES affects through other intermediary variables, such as the effect of education investment. The research mainly takes the Family investment model as the theoretical support.This research, on the one hand, using a questionnaire which refers to the current domestic research achievements to acquire the children’s family background and whole person development, by selecting 1066 students in two of Shanghai public elementary school and two private primary school students as the research object; one the other hand, through interviewing visit some leaders of chosen schools to understand teaching management, teachers and innovation activities in there. Conclusions drawn from the research are as follows:1. The family socioeconomic status significantly affect children’s whole person development;2. Investment and expectation in education plays a significant mediating effect between SES and children whole person development;3. Research model are established in all groups of children.
