Research On Transformation Of Local Undergraduate Universities In Gansu Province

In 2014, China’s economy has stepped into “new normal” phase. The transformation and upgrading of China’s economic structure requires colleges and universities to cultivate more talents with application and innovation ability. Chinese government has continuously promulgated a series of policies, and then encouraged qualified ordinary undergraduate universities to transfer into the applied model. Building application-oriented universities has become the goal of transformation of local undergraduate universities and a hot topic in higher education field. The transformation development of local undergraduate universities is not only based on their survival needs, but also to achieve the goal which avoid weaknesses, realize dislocation competition, gain competitive advantages and attain sustainable development.With nationwide transformation development of local undergraduate universities beginning, the colleges and universities in Gansu Province have realized the necessity and urgency of transformation. Local undergraduate universities in Gansu Province need to solve a series of problems, such as getting out of assimilated development, making clear orientation, emphasizing characteristics, improving quality and achieving breakthrough progress. Guided by the thought of practical investigation, the author conduct a case study of Lanzhou University of Arts and Sciences, which aims to get a comprehensive understanding of transformation measures and effects by interviewing senior leadership that based on analyzing internal and external motivation.According to the conclusion of investigation, author broadens research scope to local undergraduate universities in Gansu Province and analyzes the problems in the process of transformation and development which from the perspective of government, society and universities. At the same time, in the context of Western Development deepening stage and golden section of Silk Road Economic Belt, local undergraduate universities in Gansu Province should renew principle, reform talents cultivation pattern, optimize discipline structure and cultivate academic-practical teachers which meet demand of upgrading of industrial structure. All of these make sure local undergraduate universities in Gansu Province transform successfully by setting up a linkage mechanism of three benefit groups.
