In recent years, more and more peasant workers have come to large cities or developed areas and joined the construction of various urban industries so as to improve their living standards. For different reasons, they have to leave their children behind and ask their parents or relatives staying in villages to take care of their children. As a result, more and more left-behind children appear. Communications between left-behind children and their parents are characterized by long time intervals, long spatial distance and low communication frequency, so their parent-child relationships have become increasingly alienated. If this continues, such kind of parent-child relationship will have effects on the left-behind children’s growth and their way of building their personality. The delayed communications have contributed to the children’s lack of trust in their parents. A disharmonious parent-child relationship will greatly affect the child’s mental health, or even cause children to conduct extreme behaviors not conductive to themselves or others. However, abnormal socialization may influence the family harmony and the establishment of harmonious society. This paper mainly discusses the parent-child relationship problems of left-behind children. In this paper, the left-behind children from Grade 1 to Grade 3 in Hope Primary School of LS Town are investigated in the form of questionnaire. This paper has summarized the general family situations of left-behind children through a lot of questionnaires, and the needs assessment to involve in the subject family by interviewing the subjects and their connected persons. In addition, this paper adopts the model of “game experience + experience sharing” by utilizing the method of group work and introducing network technologies based on family systems theory, social support theory and personality development theory. A total of six group activities are conducted in the themes of “we are partners”, “growing pains”, “one day of my parents”, “I want to tell you”, “hand in hand” and “express your love” respectively to improve the parent-child relationship for left-behind children. After the group activities, evaluation is made through satisfaction survey of subject parents, result comparison of two parent-child relationship questionnaires, staff summary and reflection, and school feedbacks in combination with member evaluation, effectiveness of overall objectives and existing problems. It is shown by the evaluation results that the adoption of network technologies has a certain effect to improve the parent-child relationship for rural left-behind children. Finally, the author rethinks the advantages, disadvantages and localization of involving social work in left-behind children families under the background of network technology, and considers the application of network technology as a new method to improve the parent-child relationship for left-behind children. It is expected that this method could be used in long term and become an effective measure to improve the relationship between the rural left-behind children and their parents.
