Nowadays, traditional teaching approach cannot meet students’ demands of English.Therefore, to find a new teaching method is of great urgency. The introduction of cooperative learning will add new vitality to the classroom, improve students’ interest in learning, improve students’ performance in their study, and help students to develop all-round. Therefore, the idea of cooperative Learning should be a significant teaching idea in senior high school.Cooperative learning is mainly based on the social interdependence theory,Constructivism theory, and Zone of proximal development theory. And cooperative learning approach is proved to be a useful and effective teaching method. For this experiment, the author chose two regular classes.One class is the experimental class,and the other is the control class.During the experiment, the traditional teaching methods are still used in control class,while cooperative teaching approach is used in the experimental class.In the experimental class, the author used the heterogeneous group method. In this experiment, The pre-test, post test, experiment and interview were used to collect the dates.The experiment lasts 4 months.This article mainly deals with the following parts: the definition of the cooperative learning, the theoretical basis of cooperative learning and the methods often used by people all over the world.The result of the experiment shows that the use of putting six students in a group’s approach can greatly improve students’ comprehensive language skills and during the process, students can realize that everyone has their own strengths and weaknesses, it is benefit for the low level students to build up confidence; student with good grades can be as a model for other students, and help the low level students, so that all of the students can make progress; because of the collision and integration of different views in the heterogeneous group, students they can not only cultivate their cooperative consciousness and innovation ability, but can also learn to think and solve problems from different angles. To make a long story short, the cooperative learning method of heterogeneous grouping, was warmly welcomed by the students.
