In chemistry teaching, the teaching of chemistry experiments has a significant impact and effect on the quality of chemistry teaching. The chemistry experiment teaching is not optimistic in the region where the author works. Most of the teachers pay more attention to the teaching of theoretical knowledge, and they think experimental teaching is not so important, and time is wasted in doing experiments, so that they cannot keep up with the teaching schedule, and students’ performance would also be affected. Firstly, this paper carries out an investigation into the chemistry experimental teaching in high schools in Ceheng County. The investigation is carried out with questionnaire and interview as its major and auxiliary form. This investigation is divided into two aspects. One is for the students, who are the whole Senior Two students in the high schools in Ceheng County. The contents of the investigation include students ’ recognition of chemistry experiments, students ’ skills and the completion, etc. The other is for teachers, who are the chemistry teachers in high schools in Ceheng County, and the content of the investigation includes teachers’ understanding of the chemistry experiment teaching, teachers ’ teaching skills and methods of chemistry experiments and so on. From the results of surveys and interviews, there are many problems in the chemistry experimental teaching in this region. For example, the experimental resources are in shortage, especially there is no special chemistry experimental assistant in the lab. most teachers think that there are not so many class hours but there is so much to teach, so doing experiments would affect teaching schedule. A lot of teachers think it is better to interpret the experiments directly rather than carry out experiments. Most teachers who carry out experiments actually just demonstrate and some teachers are weaker in experimental teaching. As for students, their skills in chemistry experiments are not satisfying, and some students are not good at practicing. As for others: there is only a single method for assessing chemistry experiment; there are some unusual situations existing in dividing arts and science in school. Many above problems violate the New Curriculum ideas which advocate that teachers take the lead while students are still in teaching and studying. Most of teachers’ teaching concepts are still lagged behind, and they still retain the tradition that teachers take the initiative methods to teach and students accept knowledge passively.Based on the investigation, this paper analyzes the potential reasons for the problems existing in the chemistry experimental teaching in high schools in Ceheng, and then through the practical survey cultivates students’ interest in chemistry studying via chemistry experimental teaching, student’s interest in chemistry studying is invoked, and problems can be solved such as establishing chemistry experimental groups to deal with the problems in that there are too many students for experimental instruments; and the problem for limited class hours can also be solved. The empirical studies focus on transferring the initiative study to students, which will improve quality and effectiveness of teaching. Hoping this study has a certain reference value for chemistry teachers in the process of implementing chemistry experimental teaching in the region.
