The urban and rural areas in Pearl River Delta turn to be part of economic globalizationand development on these days.30years from the Reform and Opening in China, theeconomy of urban and rural areas has been booming. However, the urbanization bringssignificant urban-rural issues as well as huge transformation upon the rural economy andlifestyle. These include the existing urban-rural disparity, the ecological destruction, andthreaten to sustainable development. The development of urban and rural areas in Pearl RiverDelta is always the academic focus on study. The municipalities in this area attempt to process urban-rural integration when facing allthe related issues. The goal is not purely focusing on urban side but more emphasis on how tobalance the development of urban and rural areas. This change of strategy confirms therelation between urban and rural areas as well as the fact that rural areas still existed andwould stay for a long time in Pearl River Delta. Before rural areas fading away, the relationbetween urban and rural areas will not disappear. Thus, clarify several issues within thisrelation becomes a premise for achieving the goal of urban-rural integration. Unfortunately, inthe previous research about urban-rural development, the topic is often split into two isolatedsubjects: either pay attention to cities or focus on the material urbanization of rural areas only.According to some of the research results and management practice, change of urban andrural areas should not be treated as isolated processes. It is the relation and interactionbetween urban and rural areas that cause relevant problems. Then it is impossible to resolvethe problems only depend on one aspect or another. Accordingly, a better way to deal withurban-rural problems should contain dynamic association phenomenon and interactionbetween urban and rural areas. Basically, this is also the core objective of this paper. For thepast few years, domestic and international researchers made great achievements by startingfrom and focusing on topics like Urban-rural Interaction, Urban-rural Partnership rather thanjust urban behaviors in rural areas or rural behaviors in urban areas. Some of them states thatthe interaction between urban and rural areas would turn out to be a long dynamic process, which is objective. Therefore, the very premise to study relation between urban and ruralareas is to confirm the interaction between two of them. This also allows us to have areasonable perspective explaining the urban-rural relation.By summarizing domestic and oversea research results of urban and rural interaction, learning from theoretical experience and methodology of previous studies, I decide to applythe existing five dimensions of “streams” in my research. These five dimensions include food relation, natural environment, population migration, institution mobility, and capital flows.Based on the urban-rural dynamics theory, I would summarize the characteristics ofurban-rural relation around Pearl River Delta and provide related suggestions into it.
