With the advance of "new generation of migrant workers" concept, the focus of theproblem of migrant workers gradually concentrated in the new generation of migrant workers.The primary problem of new generation migrant workers is the employment. In order toemploy in town, the new generation of migrant workers must with the help of transmitionfunction of employment information channels, then match with the employer and realizeemployment eventually. Research on employment information channels of the newgeneration of migrant workers emerge as the times require.This paper divides the new generation of migrant workers employment informationchannels into formal and informal that based on the analysis of the related documents. Theformal channels include employment agency, organized by government, labor dispatchagency, labor market; the informal channels include social networks, street market, directdoor-to-door inquiries, and ads. Hence, we research on the situation of new generation ofmigrant workers employment information channels of Xi’an area, and use the sequentialsearch model of the job search theory to compare the job search cost and revenue of differentchannels that the new generation of migrant workers used. Through qualitative andquantitative analysis, we found that new generation of migrant workers in Xi’an chooseinformal channels to obtain information on job for more. This choice is not only affected bythe new generation of migrant workers personal culture degree, also correlated with thepresence of Xi’an area existing formal channels, such as the public employment serviceimplementation is not in place; information service of private employment agency is notstandard; labor dispatch agencies carrying out does not widely. In addition, withoutconsidering circumstances that the new generation of migrant workers has mastered, thetraditional networks of social relations cost low, the search profit for higher. If we take thecircumstances that the new generation of migrant workers has mastered into account, thesocial network may not be the best choice, because the strong relationship network in Chinaprovides high homogeneity information that plays a limited role.Not only official channels, but also unofficial channels, have different problems. They all can’t offer effective information support to the new generation of migrant workers. Thisarticle innovatively based on the experience from the construction of employmentinformation channels in developed countries, raise that we should start from three aspects: thegovernment, private occupation introduction, the network of social relations and nongovernment organization, to optimize the employment information channels of the newgeneration of migrant workers.
