Tourism is one of the industries growing fastest in the world today. Tourism is aservice industry that plays an increasingly important role for the development of manycountries. Vietnam has abundant tourism resources and tourism is becoming a pillar industryin Vietnam. Tourism is a major resource of national revenue and also creates large amount ofjobs for a society. Human capital plays an important role as inputs in the production process.This factor is even more important for the tourism industry; it determines the service quality oftourism and its attraction for tourists, the capacity and quality of staff in the tourism sectorplays an especially important role for the effective exploitation as well as long-termconservation of the resource potential of the country’s tourism.The tourism industry consists of many different kind of business with differentcharacteristics. Tourism companies play an important role in the development of this industry.Thus, this thesis focuses on studying the direct labour force force in tourism industry inVietnam. Currently, Tourism manpower is still very limited, lack in number, weak in qualityand deficient in structure. Therefore, in order to take the advantages of natural tourismresources, Vietnam should take measures to improve the employee s structure and quality intourism industry.This study is primarily concerned with human capital issues in Vietnam tourism industry.The study investigated the status of human capital development in tourism sector and tourismenterprises in Vietnam. The thesis analyzes and evaluates the status of quantity, quality, careerstructure of Vietnam tourism firms human capital and the State s policies concerned with thehuman resource in tourism industry. Additionally, the thesis states some opinions abouthuman resource development of tourism industry in Vietnam in the global integration process.To develop tourism human resources in accordance with the policies of the State and tourismdevelopment, the thesis proposes some solutions, including to enhance the management ofState for human resources development, to improve the quality of human resource training inthe tourism sector at training facilities as well as at tourism companies. The author believes that under the care and investment of Government and enterprisesinvolving in tourism industry, Vietnam tourism human capital will develop continuously, andtourism industry will develop stably and strongly.
