Regional economic integration is one of the most important characteristics of the world’s economy, which shares the same idea with regional economic synergistic development (RESD). Recent policy of Chinese government contains the core idea of RESD, which indicates that RESD research has becoming a hot topic.According to the evolution of complex system, the regional economy system can transform from disorder into order. Thus, the whole economic system develops with high efficiency and synergy. This synergistic development points out a new way for the regional economic development in China. At the present stage, it is the key of this article to find out current status of RESD and its spatial and temporal characteristics. This paper introduces the connotation and mechanism of RESD. Local level of protection, regional comparative advantage and the free flow of factors are important factors of RESD, and regional economy level, regional economic efficiency level and regional economic connection level are main features. Then the evaluation criteria and index system of RESD are established. The paper uses the extending DEA method to analyze current situation of RESD of different spatial scales from1993to2012. On this basis, the paper studies the spatial evolution characteristics of RESD by using global Moran’s I, local Moran scatter diagram and spatial clustering figure. The main conclusions:from1993to2012, China is on the medium-level of RESD and there exists significant difference in eastern, central and western regions. The gap of RESD among eastern, central and western has been enlarged whilst the internal gap of central and region has been narrowed. Compared to the first stage (1993-2002), the second stage (2003-2012) of RESD has increased a little. The gap among29provinces has been broadened, so as the gap among eastern, central and western. From1993to2012, the space effect of RESD is significantly positive, and there is significant spatial autocorrelation.
