Since the reform and opening up, China’s maritime service trade has maintainedrapid development, which promote the development of China’s foreign trade and thecontribution to the China’s economic development, meanwhile, our maritime servicestrade position in the maritime services trade of the world is also growing. However,while the rapid development of China’s maritime service trade, the maritime servicetrade deficit has generated, which has a great relationship with the current level ofinternational competitiveness of China’s maritime service trade. Therefore, it is veryimportant to have a deep and systematic study on the international competitiveness ofChina’s maritime service trade.Establishing a multi-level evaluation system which includes six internationalcompetitiveness display indicators and three international competitiveness analyticalindicators, selecting ten countries as a comparison, which the average of the totalimport and export of maritime service trade from2001to2011has been ranked the topten, using the gray correlation analysis method and combining selected data to carryout specific calculations of the international competitiveness of10countries’ maritimeservice trade. The result shows that the international competitiveness of China’smaritime service trade has been ranked among the middle.The internationalcompetitiveness display indicators show the international competitiveness of China’smaritime service trade has been ranked fifth, it shows that although our maritimeservice trade grows fast, the export contribution rate is not high and the profitability isstill weak.The international competitiveness analytical indicators reflect theinternational competitiveness of China’s maritime service trade has been ranked third.China’s huge trade in goods and more reasonable shipping capacity will have a greatinfluence on the development of China’s maritime service trade. Above all, it reflectsthat there is a certain gap between China and other maritime countries on the maritimeservice trade, but China’s maritime service trade has a rapid pace of development anda great development potential. Through detailed analysis of the European Union, Japan and the United States inthe development of maritime service trade and policies in order to improveinternational competitiveness of their maritime service trade, we know that althoughthe total trade volume of China’s maritime service trade has exceeded some countries,compared with the European Union, Japan and the United States, there are significantdifferences in the scale of the shipping companies, the establishment of classificationsociety, the formulation of world maritime rules and technical standards. Therefore,China should learn from their experience to promote the development of China’smaritime service trade. On one hand, we should study their strong maritime awareness,and always regard it as a national policy to implement and enforce. On the other hand,we should follow the behavior of their continuous to increase and improve thetechnology, management and policy.On the basis of a clear understanding of the international competitiveness ofChina’s maritime service trade and learning the experiences from the European Union,Japan and the United States, this article proposes some suggests to enhance theinternational competitiveness of China’s maritime service trade from the nation, thegovernment and the shipping company. To the nation, we should strengthen ourpolicy support, adjust our open strategy and formulate laws and regulations of China’smaritime service trade. To the government, it should raise the level of development ofmarine-related industries, promote maritime enterprises into joint operation and theconstruction of China’s shipping industry associations. The shipping company shouldstrengthen the international canvassing capacity, quality services, transport capacityand management innovation capability to enhance the international competitivenessof China’s maritime service trade.
