A Study On Current Situations And Countermeasures Of Unbalanced Regional Economy In Guangdong Province

As a result of the existence of differences between regions, economic development divide objectively exists in different areas. It’s reasonable if the divide stay in a limited scope. But if it’s out of control, measures must be taken to reduce the gap and enhance the balance of regional development. The imbalance of regional economy has been an important feature of Guangdong economy for a long time, seriously affects its’health and sustainable development. Guangdong Province is facing increasing competitive pressure from the other provinces. However, opportunities and problems exist at the same time. Regional economic structures of Guangdong Province are gradually changing in recent years. Developing paces of backward regions are overtaking leading regions. Meanwhile, the emphasis of Guangdong provincial government on regional economy imbalances is also rising. July2013, Guangdong Province proposed that GDP per capita of the east, north and west of Guangdong must reach or exceed the national average before2020, and has made specific policy deployment. At present, Guangdong Province is facing favorable economic situation and policy environment to solve the problem of regional economy imbalance.This paper researches for development imbalances of regional economy in Guangdong Province by new regional classification. The paper first discusses the rationality of region classification in the studies of regional imbalanced problems, then defines economic region in Guangdong Province and puts forward its’ imbalanced problem of regional economy development. On this basis, the article describes the status of this issue, analyzes the extents and trends of regional imbalances, and illustrates the causes. Based on the above analysis, some policy recommendations are put forward to solve the problem.This paper attempts to be innovative in the following areas:Firstly, the paper proposes a new regional classification method which can be used to analyze the imbalance of regional economic development in Guangdong Province more effectively and sufficiently. Secondly, the paper makes further explanations of applications of Theil index method in regional economy imbalances analysis. The shortages of this article are mainly as follows:the classification of regional may have some subjectivity because of the limitation of personal knowledge. In addition, accuracy and consistency of statistical data may be inadequate because of the data adjusts between different years.
