Under the background of global economic situation and the urgent need to improve the domestic economic environment, our country needs to change the economic development way of excessive dependence on the export, thus the expansion of domestic demand was regarded as a new growth point of economic development. Based on it, China government has issued "stimulating domestic demand promote policies to stimulate the consumption transformation and upgrading, and to develop the high priority industry and tertiary industry", in particular, to encourage and support the rapid development of the tertiary indusiry. Under the government’s support and guidance, information consumption has a good development trend, particularly prominent, which will promote China’s economy to a healthy and sustainable stage. However, since the information consumption in China started relatively late and had not complete infrastructure, product and service innovation capability were weak, the market access threshold was high, the apparent gap between urban and rural areas and other issues, which all seriously affect the development of China’s information consumption Among them, the obvious problem of information consumption gap between urban and rural areas was particularly serious. This gap seriously affected China’s sustained economic growth, there was an urgent need to analyze the current situation and the reasons for the gap of information consumption, and propose targeted solutions and approaches.Based on China’s urban residents in31provinces of information consumption data during2001and2011, respectively, from the information consumption differences measure, the paper comprehensive e the convergence of information consumption, the main factors of consumption and spatial characteristics of the information generated. Among them, the information consumption differences measure used the consumer information consumption coefficient, Theil index and coefficient of variation index; convergence analysis of information consumption includes the σ convergence, absolute convergence, conditional convergence and club convergence analysis; spatial characteristics and the main factors of information consumption was applying the methods of the exploration of spatial data statistics and the spatial autocorrelation test (spatial quartile map, global spatial autocorrelation, local spatial autocorrelation) were analyzed spatial characteristics, and then analyzes the influencing factors combine spatial characteristics of information consumption panel data and spatial econometric models. The study found differences in information consumption of urban residents is large, under the premise of no external conditions, the gap will not be as time goes on and convergence; variables after adding regional factors and regional dummy variables, showing convergence, indicating the presence of convergence and club convergence; spatial information consumption characteristics and influencing factors analysis, we found the spatial characteristics of information consumption of urban residents is obvious, and the income of urban residents and the residents of information consumption, consumer spending, household computer ownership exists positive correlation, there is a negative correlation between GDP per capita funding for education and local government spending. The above analysis of the problem found, we propose reducing the information gap between urban residents spending proposals and measures:first, to promote the coordinated development of regional economy, increase income; Second, to develop information infrastructure spending, improved consumer information service capacity; third, increase consumer information policy to support efforts to improve information consumption tendency and ability of residents; fourth, encourage technological innovation and enhance the attractiveness of information consumption.
