With the economic development and the population explosion, urban land-use changes everyday. High-speed urbanization process offers a good opportunity for discovering the regular pattern of land-use changes. Pearl River Delta region is the pioneer of China’s reform and development, with excellent natural resources, socio-economic and political conditions, under influence of high-strength construction and urban expansion, land-use patterns of this region has changed dramatically. It’s of great significance for the region’s long-term development to study the pattern of land-use changes, landscape changes and its driving forces.Using Shenzhen, Guangzhou and Zhaoqing as the research area, this paper applies Object-oriented Classification technology combined with decision tree to classification of remote sensing images of1980,1990,2000and2010with eCognition8.7platform. Based on the land-use classification and other supporting materials, the paper studied spatial and temporal characteristics of land-use changes using land-use rate, extent of land use, land-use structure change and transfer matrix of land use. The landscape changes characteristics were studied through landscape ecology under Fragstats. At last, the driving factors of land-use changes in Shenzhen were analyzed through the methods of correlation analysis and principal component analysis. The following conclusions has been drawn:(1)During the study period, the most great change lies on the Shenzhen’s town, Guangzhou followed secondly, Zhaoqing’s land-use changes slightly; the expansion of urban promoted expansion of rural land, often at the cost of decrease of farmland and woodland; the most great change of farmland lies on Shenzhen, Guangzhou followed secondly; meanwhile, urban sprawl increases the reclamation of unused land, land utilization ratio increased; land-use of study area changes regionally, the great change of Shenzhen lies on the North of Shenzhen bay and the Pearl River Estuary, land-use of eastern mountains changes a little. At the same time, Shenzhen’reclamation land area increased significantly. The maximum change area of Guangzhou is around the alluvial plain and hilly basin, the northeast hills and mountains did not change significantly(2)The fragmentation degree of Guangzhou, Shenzhen increases and then decreases gradually, the heterogeneity is also declined; the landscape index of Zhaoqing changes a little. At the patch type level, the number of patches of the three cities showed a decreasing trend, changes are mainly caused by urban rural land, cultivated land grassland and unused land.(3)Along with the growth of Shenzhen’s population and economic, the land-use structure of Shenzhen has undergone tremendous change. Using qualitative and quantitative methods, this paper makes an analysis on the driving mechanism of Shenzhen LUCC during1980-2010, the results shows that:the influence on socio-economic driving forces on LUCC increases gradually and the influence speed has accelerated since2005.
