This thesis illustrates and analyzes the development of Greater Tumen Area from the perspective of sub-regional economic cooperation. It first reviews relevant domestic and foreign studies on Greater Tumen. Then it elaborates the background and principles of sub-regional economic cooperation. After that, it summarizes the theories and practice of sub-regional economic cooperation from the successful case of Greater Mekong. Based on all the above studies, the sub-regional development of Greater Tumen is discussed thoroughly from the development timeline, the advantages and disadvantages, to its current status and potential problems. In the end, it proposes some corresponding policy solutions to those problems.This thesis focuses on the theories and practice of sub-regional economic cooperation. In theory, it compares and analyzes relevant concepts and theories, and thus reaches the conclusion that sub-regional economic cooperation, with advantages in flexibility and diversification, is a phase and form of regional economic integration. In practice, it studies the influential factors and developing patterns of sub-regional cooperation based on the Greater Tumen case. It also offers some relevant policy suggestions to the Chinese government.
