At present, this is a key period of Chinese economy to transition. Company’s innovation ability is one of the important motive power to promote national economic transition and development, and knowledge worker is the main power of enterprise innovation. Therefore, how to use managerial strategies to improve job performance of knowledge worker has become a core question of company’s human resource management.Mitchell et al.(2001) from the university of Washington first proposed job embeddedness to study the behaviour of employee. The concept of "job embeddedness" combines the internal factors and external factors of the job to explain the employee behaviour from a more comprehensive perspective. Western researchers have made a certain contribution to the theoretical research on job embeddedness, but the concept of job embeddedness put forward by western researchers is not fit for Chinese employees because of cultural distance. According to this, the paper redefines the connotation and dimensions of job embeddedness based on Chinese cultural context. Job embeddedness means that employees choose to stay in company because of attachment to the organization, environment and social relations, it also contains social, economical and psychological factors to influence employee retention. What’s more, job embeddedness consists of three dimensions which are organization embeddedness, region embeddedness and social relation embeddedness. According to this, this paper redesigns the scale of embeddedness which is suitable for Chinese employees. Coupled with the method of literature review and survey, the paper studies the influence of knowledge worker’s job embeddedness on job performance through SPSS19.0. The main conculusions are listed as follows.Firstly, through the analysis of variance, under Chinese cultural context, demographic variables such as age, position and profession have certain degree of difference on job embeddedness. However, the demographic variables such as gender, monthly income, education degree and property of enterprise has no significant difference on job embeddedness.Secondly, according to correlation analysis, the results demonstrate that job embeddedness and its three dimensions are positively related to job performance. The results of regression analysis showed that job embeddedness is a definitely positive predicator of job performance.Thirdly, the correlation analysis showed that job embeddedness, job engagement and job performance are positively related to each other. Through hierarchical regression analysis, job engagement of knowledge worker has partial mediation effect on the relationship between job embeddedness and job performance, which means job engagement is a mediator variable.According to the research conclusions of this paper, some managerial measures are proposed to improve job embeddedness of knowledge worker. Namely, offer a platform to help employees build a close and harmonious relationship with mutual trust, assist employees to merge into the environment of life and job, and provide employees a diverse and multi-level remuneration.
