Urbanization refers to the process of the constant migration and aggregation of rural population to urban areas, the rising of urban population, and the changing of the rural lifestyle and living space to urban modes. Along with the rapid urbanization, especially the less satisfactory quality induced by one-sided pursue of developing speed, the problems in urban areas become obvious such as the blind expansion of urban developing scale, the conflict of city-population binary structure, the incompleteness of urban functions and uncoordinated development in urban economy and society. The national economic conference 2013 proposed to actively and steadily push forward urbanization and improve its quality. Focusing on such target, the urbanization shall be guided to embark on a road of healthy development. Following the requirement, Tangshan should change the previous developing mode stressing on speed while ignoring quality and upgrade the quality in a comprehensive way in the future practice. It is from such perspective that the following four aspects were researched in the thesis with regard to the urbanization quality in Tangshan city.First, based on the review of urbanization quality and quality evaluation index systems home and abroad, an urbanization quality evaluation index system for Tangshan city was elaborated to serve as the research method, which covers six subsystems with 23 specific indexes, i.e. economic development, social development, livelihood, infrastructure, eco-environment and urban-rural coordinated development.Then, the urbanization qualities in Tangshan city, its governing counties, county-level cities and districts as well as the "one core and three belts" areas were evaluated and analyzed respectively, which concludes that the urbanization quality in Tangshan city is still at intermediate level, requiring arduous works to do and improve. The eco-environmental quality is regarded as the bottleneck curbing the upgrading of urbanization quality in Tangshan city. The obvious difference was observed in terms of urbanization developing levels among the counties, county-level cities and districts, with Qian’an city ranking the top in urbanization quality. The piedmont urban belt area is the best in urbanization quality. Regarding the equilibrium of the six domains development in these counties, county-level cities and districts, a relatively balanced result was witnessed in Qian’an city while unbalanced situations were obvious among its counterparts.Also, based on the evaluation, five problems and seven factors were found out restraining the urbanization quality in Tangshan city.Finally, targeting the evaluation result and problems found out in the research, measures in six aspects were put forward to upgrade urbanization quality, including citizenization of the migrant rural population in an orderly way, optimization of urbanization layout and outlook, aggregation of competitive industries via transformation and upgrading, improvement of urban comprehensive supporting capacity, acceleration of urban-rural integrative development and improvement of urban quality upgrading mechanism.
