Recently, urbanization in China has entered a rapid period of development. Urbanization became an important part of national development strategy. Land has carried all the contents of human activities. Actually, the process of urbanization is the conversions of land use. The unreasonable urban-rural land use in structure and layout has been a serious obstacle during urbanization developing. As key development zone of main functional areas partition in China, Poyang Lake eco-economic zone is at the accelerate development’s stage of urbanization. It followed by problems like a shortage of urban-rural land resources and confusion in land layout positioning. Finding the right direction to optimize urban-rural land use, reasonable optimizing the structure and spatial layout of urban-rural land, came to be a important proposition while the Poyang Lake eco-economic zone transforming from rapid urbanization to new urbanization.Firstly, we analyzed the urbanization process of Poyang Lake eco-economic zone, explored the relationship of urbanization and land urban-rural use. By analyzing the temporal changes of urban-rural construction land, we obtained result that the direction of urban-rural construction land location and increase point to southwest, which means Nanchang and Xinyu. It demonstrates that no matter scale or developing speed, the Big Nanchang Metropolitan is in the top of rank. While researching in the characteristics of urban and rural, we should take advantage of our superiorities and avoid weaknesses, rational distribution of urban-rural land use spatial, so we can make land use efficiently and our urban-rural system contain energy for sustainable development in the process.Secondly, we explored the expanded driving force of urban-rural construction land, looking for the key message of how urban-rural expands. Based on the analysis of the data of 32 units from 2005 to 2010 in Poyang Lake eco-economic zone, the expanding characteristics of urban-rural construction land was analyzed. In order to find the main driving force, 8 types of social factors which affect the expanding of urban-rural construction land were selected and the grey incidence model was employed. Research results that the expanding driving force of urban construction land are the industry and economic development level. And the expanding drive forces of rural residential construction land are mainly come from the occupancy of arable land, the income and development level of agricultural. Finally, we utilized the Niche fitness model to accomplish a new urban-rural land use functional zoning of Poyang Lake eco-economic zone. The system of Niche fitness evaluation was constructed which is built up with business development, industry development, agriculture development, environmental development, and 17 detailed indexes. Combining with the result of main function zoning, Poyang Lake eco-economic zone is partitioned into five areas like business leading area, industry leading area, agriculture leading area, environmental protecting area and prohibit development area. And then, combining with the goal of main functional zoning and the result of urban-rural land use functional zoning, we get the conclusion of the main functional zoning like core growth pole, regional center, first proliferation circle, second proliferation circle and stripe, and prohibit development area. On this basis, we put forward a balance model for optimizing the structure of urban-rural land use, and this model was used in the research area. At last, we proposed some suggestions for urban-rural land use of Poyang Lake eco-economic zone.
