The Selection Of The Featured And Advantaged Industry In Intensive Contiguous Destitute Areas

With the deepening of China’s poverty alleviation work, intensive contiguous destitute areas become the main battlefield of the new phase of poverty alleviation. These areas having more concentrated poverty, weak infrastructure, industry lags behind, severely restricts the development of the local economy. On the basis of “‘develop competitive industry’ as a major task” extracting from “China Rural Poverty Alleviation and Development Outline(2011-2020)”, industrialization poverty alleviation has been given a new definition, in addition, developing featured and advantaged industry also become significant means to solve severe poverty issues in these intensive destitute areas.Tianshui City, as the secondary important central city in the Guanzhong economic zone, has got great potential in economic development. As part of the Liupan Mountain poverty district, Qingshui, Qin’an and other three counties under the jurisdiction of Tuanshui City, have apparent regional advantages comparing with other counties under the same poverty district. However, due to irrational industrial structure, small scale industry and other reasons, the problem of poverty has been unresolved till now. With this context, this paper using related industry selection theory to exp lore the selection issues of the featured and advantaged industries in Tianshui destitute areas as well as to analyze any effective solutions to industrial development.This paper began with literature review and analys is, reviewing related theories regarding poverty and industrial selection issues in both China and anglophone countries. This paper came up with the research question by defining the featured and advantaged industries in destitute areas. Secondly, this paper found relevant data from Statistical Yearbook and describe the current industrial situation and restraining factors of destitute areas in Tianshui City. Thirdly, according to the quantitative analys is of data ind icators, this paper selected 4 categories Class 1 indicators and 8 categories Class 2 indicators, and used princ ipal component analys is to select the featured and advantaged industries in the intens ive destitute areas. This paper preliminary found that farming, forestry, food industry, equipment manufacturing, transportation and wholesale and retail trad ing industry should be the main industries to be cultivated. Finally, this paper provided suggestions and advices for the development of the featured and advantaged industries as well as the developing strategies for the Primary, Secondary and the Tertiary Industry, aligning with the realistic demands of destitute areas in Tianshui City.
