Study On The Influence Of Population Aging On Consumption Structure In Fujian Province

Population aging is one of the common global problems today. It looks like a double-edged sword. If we don’t put much attention on population aging, it will bring a great crisis to the whole social economy, but if we can handle it properly, it will not only bring the benefit to the old people, but also contribute to the economic and social development. Compared to Shanghai, Jiangsu and other developed areas, the population aging in Fujian province at present is not so serious, but according to the population data in recent years, the population aging in Fujian province is increasing and it will have a great influence on many aspects of Fujian province’s society and economy.The change of consumption structure is one of the effects. As the old people are quit different from the others in consumption demand and the proportion of the old people in Fujian province is increasing, the consumption demand characteristics of the old people have a great influence on the changes of the consumption structure in Fujian province. So this paper chooses to study the influence of population aging on consumption structure in Fujian province.Firstly, based on the data of the Fujian statistical yearbook, this paper summarizes the population aging situation and the consumption structure situation of Fujian province in recent years, analyses the development of the population aging and the consumption structure in Fujian province and describes the characteristics of the population aging and the consumption structure in Fujian province. Secondly, this paper explains the influence of population aging on consumption structure in Fujian province. It includes three parts:the first part is the analysis of the characteristics of consumer demand of the old people which are different from the others in Fujian province; the second part is the analysis of how the old people affect the consumption structure, it will demonstrate that the population aging will have an impaction on the consumption structure in Fujian province; the third part is an empirical analysis of the influence of population aging on consumption structure in Fujian province. As the data do not have the typical distribution, so this paper selects the grey correlation analysis as the analysis method in the empirical part. Through the empirical analysis, we will find some different effects of the old people on eight categories of the consumer spending in Fujian province. Finally, based on the analysis above, this paper puts forward three suggestions to promote the coordinated development between population aging and consumption structure. It includes developing "the silver industry", specifically developing the tourism industry, the education industry, the health services industry, the food industry and the pension service industry; setting up the old-age medical and social security systems and reasonably mining elderly demographic dividend.
