Empirical Research On Energy Efficiency Of Provinces In China

With the reduce of the word energy reserve and the increase of the amount of energy demand, contradiction of energy supply and demand is exacerbating, which cause improving energy efficiency essential. At present, China is carrying out the new development strategy of urbanization, in order to break the dual structure in urban and rural economy, release the huge potential of rural consumption potential, and explore the endogenous growth model, so that our economy can develop stably, rapidly and efficiently. In the process of achieving this goal, the construction of ecological civilization should not be underestimated. The construction of ecological civilization is added into the eighteen reports, which unites economic construction, political construction, cultural construction and social construction as a whole and reflects our country values the construction of ecological civilization. Now our country is in a stage of rapid development of urbanization period, solving the energy problem faced by the process of urbanization has important theoretical and practical significance.This paper is under he framework of total factor energy efficiency, which firstly using data envelopment analysis (DEA) to estimate energy efficiency of China’s 30 provinces during the period of 2005-2009 and making a detailed analysis of provincial, regional characteristics and convergence trends of energy efficiency; secondly, selecting the total factor energy efficiency as the dependent variable and the level of urbanization, industrial structure, energy consumption structure and level of technological progress as the independent variable, use Tobit regression model to explore the mechanism of various factors on the energy efficiency, with particular attention on the impact of urbanization mechanism; finally according to the results of empirical analysis, this article put forward to the direction about lowering energy consumption, in order to prepare for practical reference. This study finds that Chinese provincial energy efficiency of the overall level is not high, and the Chinese provincial energy efficiency levels are quite different; energy efficiency levels in northeastern, eastern, central and western are so different; the level of urbanization has a significant positive correlation with energy efficiency levels. This paper innovates from two aspects:(1)Study the relationship between provincial energy efficiency levels and urbanization level, while find both show a high degree of positive correlation and have the same fluctuation trends which provides the necessary theoretical foundation for the implementation of the urbanization.(2) Using the total factor energy efficiency as the dependent variable and considering the impact of urbanization as part of factors, analyze the mechanisms of urbanization on energy efficiency.This paper studies the provincial energy efficiency levels and explores the mechanisms of urbanization on energy efficiency; and conclusions derived from this paper provide a theoretical reference for implementing the strategy of urbanization.
