Scientific research projects have always been a reflection of the technological advancement of coal machine manufacturing industry, with important influences on the direction of development in the entire industry. Since they mainly study coal mines and other complex and harsh environments, those projects often have higher and more specific requirements. Therefore, introduction of risk management philosophy and addition of risk assessment processes shall facilitate management of the entire projects and provide measures and directions to decision-makers for plan improvement, thus playing a significant role in ensuring smooth implementation of research projects in the industry.In this paper, the risk factors are analyzed for research projects in coal machine manufacturing industry, and important risk factors that will affect the course of the project are identified and classified. Upon comprehensive comparison of the advantages and disadvantages of the various methods of qualitative and quantitative analysis, the author eventually chooses to combine influence diagrams and AHP method to build a risk assessment model geared to the coal machine manufacturing industry.In view of high strength and high power short wall electric traction shearer project, AHP analysis is used for decision-making in the plan and influence diagram method is used to calculate the probability of risk at each node of the project, therefore determining the most important decision nodes, providing theoretical basis for risk assessment model for risk management to formulate corresponding countermeasures.
