In the 1930 and 1940 s, Hsiao-tung Fei and other scholars devoting toresearching the rural social development in China made social survey on threevillages which are located located in the southwest in China. And he is the author ofThree Villages in Yunnan. Over the past several decades, the handicraft industry in YiVillage is not transformed into rural industry, and nearly disappears in recent years.As the classic of Chinese sociology, Yi Village is not researched systematically anymore after the research by Hsiao-tung Fei and Zhang Zhiyi.
