With the gradual development of the city, it’s special role as an economy, politics, culture,science and technology activity center becomes more and more important, and urbanization’sinfluence on social progress becomes more and more significant. Sci-tech innovation is one factorthat contributes urbanization progress. Meanwhile, city has lots of resources. All of them providea large number of advantage to the generation of new knowledge and technology, and contribute toprogress of Sci-tech innovation.In a word,urbanization and Sci-tech innovation effect on eachother.But how does they two influence each other?and how does Sci-tech innovation investmentimpact the development of urbanization? A study about those questions can be useful for puttingforward some strategies about Sci-tech innovation contributes urbanization,which make muchpractical significance.Based on urbanization and Sci-tech innovation’s basic characteristics, we build twocomprehensive evaluation systems about them on the background of our country. After measuringdevelopment degree of urbanization and Sci-tech innovation by using national data from1995to2012,we find that they all grew rapidly, and their average development speed were106.58%and114.91%respectively. In addition, the difference of development speed among populationurbanization, economic urbanization and social urbanization were obvious, and Sci-techinnovation’s five subsystems such as funding,manpower input,intellectual property,technologyindustrialization and development potential’s were significant too.Correlation analysis of urbanization and Sci-tech innovation shows that there existed asignificant and positive correlation between the two,and the coefficient was0.969. At the sametime, there was a significant and positive correlation between urbanization and Sci-techinnovation’s five subsystems, or between Sci-tech innovation and urbanization’s three subsystemsalso. In order to figure out the relationship between urbanization and Sci-tech innovation further,this paper use plenty of statistical methods such as cointegration test to analysis them. Cointegrationtest shows that there was a positively correlated and long-run equilibrium relationship existedbetween them.From the trend of variance decomposition data, we can make a conclusion thatSci-tech innovation’s effect on urbanization more powerful than urbanization’s on Sci-techinnovation. In other words, urbanization was more sensitive to Sci-tech innovation’s effect, but it’sinfluence on the other was not significant.To explore how does Sci-tech innovation affect urbanization, this paper takes path analysis model into account. The result shows that manpower and funding promoted the development ofurbanization through direct effect and indirect effect, and indirect effect were greater than directeffect. Finally, this paper put forward some suggestions about how to speed up the development ofurbanization on the side of Sci-tech innovation.
