Technical Structure Of China Export To Its Primary Trade Partners And Related Changes

After economic reform,China’s export scale and technical structure of exportproducts is rising(Dani Rodrik,2006; Peter K.Schott,2006; Du Xiuli, Wang Weiguo,2007; Meng Meng,2012).China’s primary trade partners are still fixed,that is theEuropean Union, the United States, ASEAN, Japan, Korea, Australia, Russia andBrazil,its exports over60%of total exports,but few literatures have analyzed thetechnical structure of Chinese exports to the single trade partner,therefore, thetechnical structure of China exports to single trade partners is not very clear.In thiscontext,this articlet analyzes the export technical structure of China export to theprimary trade partners and related changes.By documenting traditional calculation methods of export products technicalcomplexity and new methods of export product technical complexity, this articleselects the Hausmann (2005) method,using the2002-2013years’ data,then in the baseof the United Nations "standard International Trade classification "the third revisionof the standard three-digit under the classification level of260kinds of products,wecalculate all products’ technical value.According to technical value size, on average,260kinds of products are divided into five groups, namely high-tech products, themiddle high-tech products, the middle-tech products, the middle low-tech productsand low-tech products. Then, we will analyze the technical change of China exports toprimary trade partners in the horizontal and vertical angle,lead to the conclusion:China’s export products technical structure has improved significantly, but the singlerate have the difference, ASEAN and Brazil is the fastest proving,and South Korea,theEuropean Union, the United States have the slowest rate.After analyzing the technical structure of China’s exports to the primary tradepartners,this article documents the factors relate to the technical structure of exportproducts, such as gross domestic product, population, foreign direct investment,distance, and other relevant regional trade agreements and so on,then we do adescriptive analysis. Next, base on the extend gravity model, this article analyzes theimpact of these factors on trade flows of different technological products export, theconclusions as follows: China’s GDP and partners’GDP promote the technologicalcontent of export products, but ratio of partners is greater than China;FDI alsoimproves the technological content of export products, but only to enhance the performance of the low technological products and the low-tech products;distance asthe impedance factor, to decrease the technological content of export products, butwith higher and higher technological content of products,its impedance is gettingsmaller and smaller;to the regional trade agreements, it shows weak role in promotingthe technical contents of exports.In the end, we put forward to some policies andsuggestions of China’s export.
