Effects Of Urbanization On Ecosystem Service Values In Mineral Resource-based City

Ecological problems and environmental problems generated in the process ofurbanization is one of great challenges in mineral resource-based city. Thegovernment has implemented a wide variety of environmental regulation initiatives,attempting to protect ecological system and promote balanced and sustainabledevelopment of regional economy and ecosystem. Taking a mineral resource-basedcity—Huaibei in China as the study area, the sustainable development problemsbetween urbanization and ecological service are analyzed in this paper. Firstly, thispaper analyzes the urbanization level of Huaibei over the period of1990-2011.Secondly, on the basis of ecological service value assessment method of Costanza andXie Gaodi, this paper evaluates ecosystem service values over the period of1990-2011. Finally, this paper analyzes the correlation between urbanization andecosystem service values. Additionally, some relevant policy recommendations areput forward to promote sustainable development of regional economy and ecosystem.The results show that:(1) During the period of1990-2011, the level ofpopulation urbanization, economic urbanization, landscape environment urbanizationand lifestyle urbanization have been significantly improved. The city’s comprehensiveurbanization level continued to rise from0.0067in1990to0.1241in2011.（2）Withthe development of urbanization, Huaibei’s ecosystem service value has changeddramatically and it decreased122.73million yuan. From1990to2011, Huaibei’secosystem service value exhibits the trend of upward slightly at first and downwardeventually. The supply service, regulate service, support service have increased, andthe cultural service has decreased.(3) Moreover, we find that there is strongcorrelation between each ecosystem service and population urbanization, economicurbanization, landscape environment urbanization, lifestyle urbanization andcomprehensive urbanization. With rapid urbanization in region, the negative influenceof urbanization on ecosystem is greater than the positive influence and ecosystemservice value has decreased. Therefore, it is of great importance to maintainsustainable development of urbanization and ecosystem.
